Love is Patient and Kind

Tonight, we discussed about the two natures of love which are that it's kind and patient. Both qualities are not so natural in man. That is why we also learned that for love to be sincere, it must be on the foundation of God's love.

We cannot love without hooking it on God. There is always an ulterior motive. Something that drives us. We may not be aware of it but there is. For example, why do you spend so much money in dating someone? It's because you enjoy spending time with the person. It's not because you want to add value to the person or you want to give the person something that would improve him/her in any way.

I think the world would truly be a better place if we just loved each other because God first loved us.

I'm looking forward for the next discussions about love with this season's topic 40 Days of Love.

Recommended LCD

I hate to pinpoint brands but what I'd go for are LGs or CHIMEIs. They're both bang for the buck panels. Choose a unit from these brands that have 2ms response time and high contrast ratios.

Night Out With Hundreds of Girls Gets Cancelled

So there I was, ready to party in a club with a couple hundred college girls from an exclusive school. I got my best threads on, game face all set to go, confidence level on a 9/10, and a great view of the place.

Long story short, I was excited to go on and party. But soon after my urge to mingle, I learn that my sister needs to go home early. I called my parents to ask if I can stay after they've left, they declined despite my somewhat convincing argument. So I resigned and obeyed. We headed home together.

Upon arriving home, a couple of my friends were drinking in front of their place. They called out to me and so decided to go over there to greet them.

Upon greeting them, they asked me how I was so I told them that I was pretty ticked off that my party was cut short even before it started. They invited me to drink with them which I declined (respectfully of course). They asked me about my drinking habits and I confessed that I still drink occasionally but I make it a point that I don't get drunk.

This question led them to ask about my commitments with other things such as obedience to parents, relationships, and girls. I was able to share with them my conviction. Then they asked about the end of the world. I was also able to share with them the biblical truths about this event. It felt like they were very interested. They listened and asked for about an hour.

God humbled me this way. He gave me a circumstance where I could either respond very negatively or somewhat positively. I did the latter and He allowed me to share a little of Himself to a couple of friends.

Praise God. To Him be all the Glory.

Splatterhouse - Mini Review

I've started playing this game a couple of weeks ago despite reviews on it that said it was pretty bad. I find it a little amusing. Your character gets possessed by an evil spirit, gets auto-buffed, and rips apart demons and other creatures.

It's a basic platformer. You need a little bit of skill to get through the levels. The combos are quite entertaining to perform. And the splatter... YES! THE SPLATTER! Guts spilled everywhere. Limbs being used as weapons. The "hero" gets drenched in blood. What's not to like?

This game deserves a little more than just a double take. If you're not going to buy it, at least borrow it from your friend.

myself + Kinect Your Shape - Umagang Kay Ganda = Still Good!

Last night as I was preparing for the presentation, I mentioned the deal to my family. They were troubled about why UKG couldn't provide any compensation for either gas or rental of the Kinect. Something that I thought was already weird but I still agreed earlier to do the show without.

As they told me about the experience of a friend who works in that certain network, it turns out that it's really a bit shady when it comes to financial things. I won't discuss details yet as I don't know the story personally yet, but when I do, I'll just add the details here.

It was very disappointing for me that the segment producer cancelled the part just because I asked for compensation for the service that I would provide and the resources that I would consume. One would think guests will have at the very least, a minimum of respect and value as parts of their show. Last time I guested, I even got charged for parking. (lol)

Anyway, to cut the long story short, the kinect segment on UKG did not push through but I'm still quite at peace with myself since I obeyed my parents (Ephesians 6:1). And if it didn't push through, God didn't want it to push through. Since it's God's will, I submit.

I got in touch with the competition of UKG and hopefully we'll arrange something better. I'll be fully prepping for it once a gig pops up.

Again, to God be all the glory!

Departure from Philippines to Arrival in Macau & Denial of TV Show Appearance

I was totally getting restless as we prepare for our Macau trip. From sorting the things that we're going to bring with us to locking the door of the house, I was totally stressing out. It might have been due to the excitement of the trip with a pinch of baggage from the work that I was to leave behind as I go out the country.

But the tension left me soon after. As we started our journey with a convoy towards the airport at Subic, I felt more and more at peace. I felt the spirit of God overriding all preparations and all events surrounding our trip.

Upon arrival at the airport, I learned that I lost my key to the luggage that my sister and myself shared. Good thing she has her key with her, else we'd have no way of opening the suitcase that we brought. It'd have spelled disaster for us.

I checked the car I came from, the area I got off at, and all possible places I might have misplaced it in. I couldn't find it. Finally, I called my friend, Sugar, to assist me in calling Starbucks Congressional since it's the last place I saw it at and I felt that it's most probably there. She made an effort to contact the coffee shop. She searched the net for their number, called them, and called again to describe the key. True enough, there it was. Praise God for her help.

While waiting in the terminal for our plane, we received news that it was delayed. And as we continued to wait, we received an email from our hotel that the complimentary shuttle towards the place would be gone at exactly ten. I also received a call from Unang Hirit. They were inviting me to guest in their show the following morning. I declined since I would be in Macau at the time. I tried to call a couple of friends who could possibly fill in my role. Unfortunately, none of them could.

Our plane finally arrived and we boarded. We knew that we wouldn't reach the ten o'clock departure of the shuttle so were a bit worried with our transportation options. We arrived at the Macau airport at a little past ten. We went through the counters and tried to catch the last shuttle. We were not surprised that we weren't able to catch it.

We asked around and chanced upon a Filipino guide. He hooked us up with a ride with one of his Chinese friend which made our trip to the hotel a lot cheaper. Thanks, Michael Miranda!

We arrived in our hotels and enjoyed resting for the rest of the evening. I knew that God's hand was at work.

Umagang Kay Ganda = Success! Praise God!

Despite my doubts about myself appearing on the show, everything went well. I definitely felt that God was with me through the whole event. I found myself worrying about a bunch of things: The LCD screen still wasn't set up. We don't have power outlets yet. The HDMI cable wouldn't fit because of the bad wall mounting of the tv set. We only got two power outlets when we needed three.

God continued to remind me that He IS in control. So I felt his guiding hand comforting me and I started to relax though there were still a bunch of things that weren't set up yet.

Sure enough, when we needed the whole set up to work, it did. Everything was in order.

Most of the hosts of the show enjoyed playing with the Xbox 360 Kinect that I brought. The interview went really well. And most of all, out of all these, God was glorified.

Once again, I thank God for the opportunity and the privilege to appear on ABS CBN and to expand my horizon.

To God be all the Glory!

Possible Appearance in a Morning Show

While driving home from church last night, I received a text message from one of the segment producers of a morning show here in the Philippines. She identified herself as part of this production and expressed her interest in getting me as a guest in the show.

I've appeared before in a morning show for a few seconds. I didn't think I'd be given the opportunity to do so again. I thought I was being pranked so upon arriving home, I logged into my computer.

I googled her name and found out that she's in wikipedia and she was indeed listed in the segment producers of this morning show she mentioned earlier.

So I got down on my knees and thanked God for giving me another blessing. For finding favor in me though I've failed him millions of times. I was so humbled by God that night. I pray that God changes me that I be able to please him more and more.

Vacation Imminent!

Our vacation out the country is imminent! But I'm kinda having mixed emotions about the trip. I feel that a part of me is getting excited over this but another part is getting totally stressed out.

It might be because I am carrying a lot of baggage. I am currently juggling my business and my tutoring gig. Both require quite a lot of my time and both of them are very rewarding. A vaca means I won't be able to earn during these days and the kids that I'm tutoring might have trouble with their exams..

I might be overreacting over the whole deal. The trip's gonna be under a week so I'm thinking there's no need to stress too much over the whole thing. I hope everything turns out fine.

I ask for your prayers for a safe journey and a blessed experience.

what the heck Pinas?!

After hearing the news before about the murder at a gas station, I thought to myself: this is an isolated case and is pretty impossible to call a norm in the Philippines. But after a few months, another one turns up about this guy who gets caught in a clear camera shot while he's about to shoot the person who was taking a picture. The sad thing about it is, the victim was taking a photo of his family. So the family of the victim and the killer and his accomplice were all in one photo. And this happened on New Year's Eve! What the heck is happening?! Don't people think that people's lives matter?

Here's a shot of the family and the assassin:

I pray that it gets better for the Philippines.

being "nice" CAN get you in trouble

As I was at this store yesterday, I saw this foreign woman buying games. I noticed that the people who were assisting her were unfamiliar with her language so I decided to intercede and help them out. I was asking her about what kind of titles does she need, who's going to play, and what are their game preferences.

The place she had been buying games from is a place where they sell bootleg copies. And so I asked her where she got her console, what games has she played on the system so far, and finally: has she gotten it modified yet?

Intention-wise, I was trying to help the guys in the store out so that they can get more profit from this transaction by getting the woman to bring her console in and get it modded by them. They didn't understand what we were talking about because they weren't really familiar with the language so they got ticked off and even asked me to step aside. Confused as I was, I just left and let them deal with her. Sure enough, when the woman had left and I'd gone back to the store, one guy confronted me and told me that I should mind my own business. I told him that I was telling the woman to bring her console in so they can get more profit. Still ticked off, his other friend who understood, told him to let it go and said that we're good. Praise God for this friend of his.

Note to self: Do not help people unless asked to? I can't put a dot on this statement because this doesn't really feel right. But if I were to bound it on rules of self preservation, I should.

Kinect Sports - Review (only on the Xbox 360)

So everyone's heard of Wii Sports right? So what's all this fuss about Kinect Sports? Is it a rip-off? A copy? A half-a**ed game?

It's not! It's friggin' awesome! I've played this with a lot of people and never have I seen such intensity and such excitement to play a single videogame in my life. And no, I am not exaggerating.

I've brought the Kinect to a number of places such as my grandma's place, a friend's home, a mall, and even a tv studio! Reactions are all the same! Everyone gets excited over this new device. So I decided to make it my business. Yes, I sell Kinects... and Xbox 360s... and PS3s... and ledtvs... and... pretty much everything that has anything to do with gadgets! But enough about that! We're here to talk about Kinect Sports!

When you decide to get a kinect bundle, you'll notice that there's a game bundled with it. Nope, that's not Kinect Sports. It's actually Kinect Adventures! You wish it's Kinect Sports. When you start the latter, you'd be in the middle of a stadium, or at least it appears like you are since you don't really have a 360 degree view of the area. Fun thing to do when you get to this part is: raise both of your hands high. Just do it!

In Kinect sports, you get to play boxing, volleyball, table tennis, soccer, bowling, dash, hurdles, disc throw, javelin throw, and long jump. I hope I didn't miss anything. All these games are in their own right, great! For example, the table tennis game is really responsive. You just swing your arm in the direction you normally would in a normal table tennis game.

A particularly enjoyable Kinect Sports minigame would be party play. This minigame pitches two teams against each other and allows them to choose which member of their respective teams competes with the other team's chosen member in a given event. There are six events in total so if there are three players each team, each player gets to participate in two events.

To all Kinect owners and to all potential Kinect buyers (buy from me), I say that you get Kinect Sports as soon as you get your hands on the Kinect! Kinect Sports: Highly Recommended!

Call of Duty Black Ops - accomplished!

After hours of playing through the game and constantly dying, I've finally completed the game. It was insanely difficult. I never changed the difficulty setting though to lower than what I'd initially set it at - though the thought has crossed my mind numerous times.

At first I was having trouble getting with the flow of the story but as it progressed, it became more and more interesting for myself. Giving small hints of a possible twist to the story added suspense to an already exciting game.

I've wielded a number of different weapons, commandeered different vehicles, and as most Call of Duty games end with, I saved the world. Or at least what some people think of as the world - the US. Don't you find it funny when some movies say that it's the end of the world, they only show the US being attacked or destroyed? Anyway...

I haven't tried the multiplayer game mode yet but I do know that the campaign is awesome. I've played a little of the zombie mode and I think it would give the players some variety to playing CoD. The ambiance felt authentic, the weapons and the characters also. Overall, the game felt and played really good.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is definitely a game you shouldn't miss.

Call of Duty Black Ops - funny incident

                                                                                    (image borrowed from i.acdn.us)

I've been playing Black Ops for quite a while now. Today, I was trying to muscle through the whole game when I found myself pretty addicted to the game and the storyline. It was already quarter to one in the afternoon and I still had a lot to do (eg. chores, work, etc.). So what I did was I committed to myself that I would stop playing by 1pm.

As I'm playing along, the story gets more and more entangling and I found myself rushing to beat the 1pm deadline that I put on my playing time. I believe I'm in the last battle, the climax of the story, when all of a sudden, there was an error on my screen wherein I had no choice but to accept. When I accepted the error message, it brought me to the main menu. So the game could only be resumed from the start of the level which I really didn't think was a smart thing to do since I had to do other things already.

When I looked up to check on the clock as I was weighing my options, I saw that it was exactly 1pm! It reminded me that God was telling me to do what I have to do first and play another game had I the time later on to do so.

Praise God for this amusing incident! I wouldn't have stopped if it hadn't been for this.

Dance Central Review

                                                       (image borrowed from amazon)

As most of you already know, Kinect got released late last year. With its release, a number of games accompanied it during the launch. One of which is Dance Central.

Dance Central is the new rhythm game released by Harmonix (makers of Rock Band).

Presentation:
With really vivid colors and appropriate dancing backgrounds, DC does really well what it's supposed to do. Some of the characters look a little bit weird for me though. But that's just me. I think Harmonix did a very good job of designing the interface. From the menus to the highlights, all were very smoothly done. Extremely surprising because I never knew Harmonix had a knack for making a dance game since they've always played in the fields of band games.

Gameplay:
Dance Central is pretty straightforward with its gameplay. You choose a song, choose to perform it, dance battle, or break it down. Performing it allows you to do the whole routine by yourself. Dance battling means there's two of you who perform it alternately. You get to perform the same dance moves so when it's the first time you're playing, player two always gets an advantage.
The break it down feature is the most interesting one of the three. You get to learn the dance step by step. If you perform the step flawlessly the first time, it makes you do the next step. If you don't, you have to complete it thrice to move on to the next. If you're still having trouble completing it three times, you get the option to slow the routine down and return it to normal speed once you've gotten the hang of it.

This are the songs that are included in the game. As you may have well noticed, there is variety in their choices of tracks. If you want other songs that are not in this list, you are given the option to download some on Xbox Live. Really sweet deal.

  • Audio Push – Teach Me How To Jerk
  • Basement Jaxx – Rendez-vu
  • Beastie Boys – Body Movin' (Fatboy Slim Remix)
  • Beenie Man – King Of The Dancehall
  • Bell Biv DeVoe – Poison
  • Benny Benassi – Satisfaction
  • Cascada – Evacuate the Dancefloor
  • Christina Milian – Dip It Low
  • The Commodores – Brick House
  • Craig Mack – Flava In Ya Ear (Remix)
  • Dirty Vegas – Days Go By
  • Eric B. & Rakim – Don't Sweat the Technique
  • Fannypack – Hey Mami
  • Jay Sean ft. Lil Wayne – Down
  • Kool & The Gang – Jungle Boogie
  • Kylie Minogue – Can't Get You Out of My Head
  • Lady Gaga – Just Dance
  • Lady Gaga – Poker Face
  • Lipps Inc – Funky Town
  • M.I.A. – Galang '05
  • Nelly Furtado – Maneater
  • Nina Sky – Move Ya Body
  • No Doubt – Hella Good
  • Pitbull – I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)
  • Quad City DJ's – C'mon N' Ride It (TheTrain)
  • Rihanna – Pon de Replay
  • Salt-N-Pepa – Push It
  • Snoop Dogg/Pharrell – Drop It Like It's Hot
  • Soulja Boy Tell 'Em – Crank That (Soulja Boy)
  • Wreckx-n-Effect – Rump Shaker
  • Young MC – Bust A Move
Conclusion:
Dance Central by far is probably the best game that utilizes kinect since it's excellent at what it does and is very flashy in doing it. I hope to see more games like these by Harmonix. Hopefully an all hiphop rnb Dance Central game gets released in the near future.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

                                                                  (image borrowed from microsoft store)

I've very recently finished this game! Praise God! For a casual gamer such as myself, setting the difficulty on the hardest available setting wasn't the brightest of choices. But I muscled through and was able to get through the game.

Upon starting the game, I felt there's potential for a great gaming experience. The longer I play, I felt that I'm no longer moved by the gameplay, rather I was being dragged into Castlevania by it's story. There were some minor quirks that were pointed out by other people who reviewed the game such as bad camera angles, bugs, and these tutorial notes that were too darn persistent, I think it's a game well worth playing through. On the xbox 360 release, there was a game update that I had to install when I played the game while signed in to xbl (xbox live) which addressed some of these issues, lessening the distraction caused by these little things.

The player enters the game as Gabriel Belmont, a member of the Brotherhood of Light. Fighting supernatural creatures, bosses, and occasional titans he presses forward trying to find out what happened to his wife, Maria, who he dreamed of killing. Further into the game, he discovers that there is a way to resurrect Maria and is filled with hope to do so. In turn, he starts to kill more and more creatures to save his beloved wife.

I can't tell you more about the plot since I would be spoiling the story for you. But I enjoyed every bit of it and I deem that most of you will too.

As for the overall appearance of the game, the characters look like they were well thought of. Some given more time than others but ultimately it seemed to me that they were designed appropriately. The environment was a marvel to look at. Vast landscapes, gloomy caves, beautifully vegetated gardens were all candy to the eyes. I'd have to agree with other reviewers that you encounter some of them too fast that you won't be able to really appreciate the time and effort that was put into them. Still, when you do notice them, you'd realize how so much thought was put into these areas.

The gameplay was good. It's a little bit in the middle of this-will-pass and great. The skills that you get as you progress into the game feel good to execute and look even better when done. From spinning attacks to blast waves, everything felt very fluid. Most are not really needed to complete the game but they are just too much fun to let past. (I might play the game again later on to get all the other combos available)

I was very pleased to finish the game although I felt like when I was getting a hang of the controls and the overall pace of Castlevania, the game was about to end. I did enjoy the ending very much and would watch it again to absorb the idea of it all. Like I said, I wouldn't spoil you with it.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is indeed a great buy.

Opening Blog

After much thought,  I finally decided to start blogging.

There isn't a lot that I thought I'd like to say until I realized that everything that I should be writing about, I end up blurting out to people who aren't really interested in those things. Big no-no!

So now, I'm moving my conversations to the internet where some people may be interested. At least they wouldn't have to pretend that they're interested and just close the window if they're not. A really interesting and funny thing people do when engaged in a convo where they're no longer interested in the topic of choice is they nod without really hearing what their chat partner says. Like if I insert something like: "I enjoy eating raw chicken", the person just nods.
